Software maker and breaker.
I've been a software developer and product builder for 18 years. My current work is on understanding how AI platforms and tools make use of content from the web — for better and for worse. I started a company with Chris Andrew to commercialize this work; check us out at Scrunch AI.
Previously I've been a an early contributor at a number of venture-backed technology companies.
- From 2010 to 2021, I was an early employee and later VP Engineering / CTO at Hearsay, a vertical SaaS platform for marketing and CX which serves the largest investment and insurance institutions in the world. Hearsay was funded by Sequoia Capital and New Enterprise Associates, and acquired by Yext in 2024.
- From 2006 to 2010, I worked in advertising technology, most notably at Quantcast, working on things like auction systems, automatic audience segmentation, anti-abuse / anti-fraud, and hyperscale data warehousing.
My professional(ish) interests include data journalism and "citizen analytics", making data-intensive computing more accessible, improving software performance & reliability, and reverse engineering or "adversarial interoperability".

Occasional thoughts below: -
LLMs are already good enough to revolutionize the internet
Generative AI may or may not see another quantum leap in capabilities. In some ways, it doesn't matter.
